A Word from the Head

King Edward VI School: Admissions at 11+ and 13+ for girls and boys. Entry requirements include examination, interview and report. At 16+, admission into the Sixth Form is based on GCSE performance and interview. Children may be registered at any age.

The usual subjects are offered for GCSE plus German, Greek, Latin, Spanish, Economics, RS, Art, PE, Design and Technology, Music, Sports Studies and Theatre Studies. Non-examination subjects offered include RE, Games and PE. Over 70% of pupils stay on to do A and AS Levels which are offered in most GCSE subjects plus Classical Civilization, Further Mathematics, Philosophy, Computing, Business Studies, and Music Technology.

Reports are sent out twice a year. One Parents' Evening a year is held for each year group, and other meetings can be arranged by appointment.

About 99% of pupils go on to degree courses, with over 80% going to the Russell Group Universities. Extensive careers guidance is provided with opportunities for work experience and visits to universities.

Sports include Cricket, Tennis, Netball, Hockey and Rugby. Others available include Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Skiing, Squash, Table Tennis and Swimming. Sporting tours have taken place to Australia, Canada, South Africa, Spain, France, Malta, Germany the Caribbean and New Zealand.

There are many musical groups including orchestras, a jazz band, swing band, brass group, instrumental groups and a choir that travels extensively. We have a fully equipped theatre and many productions take place each year. Art is very important with examples of student work displayed throughout the School.

Transport to School is available from most areas of South Hampshire.

In addition to the recently purchased Rural Studies Centre on Dartmoor, a new Pavilion and Technology centre has been built, 20 science laboratories have been refurbished along with the Humanities and Mathematics faculties. Academic facilities also include 2 large libraries, ICT centre, a recently renovated and extended Sixth Form centre and music school on site. Sports facilities include a sports hall, fitness centre, a relaid astro pitch, netball, squash and tennis courts. Off –site there are a further 33 acres including a second refurbished astro and more netball and tennis courts.

In addition to over 50 clubs and Societies, there are numerous opportunities for leadership, community service, and the Duke of Edinburgh award. There are International Expeditions alongside many excursions abroad ranging from regular exchange visits with schools on the continent and the USA to sports tours across the world. There are also strong links and visits to charitable projects in both Romania and South Africa.
