A Word from the Head

With the magnificent moorland, countryside and coastal landscapes of Devon and Cornwall close to hand, city-based Plymouth College is a co-educational HMC school for ages 3 to 18.

The Junior School, for day pupils up to the age of 11, is set in the superb environment of the former Georgian/Victorian Royal Naval Hospital. State-of the art facilities are combined with an enhanced National Curriculum designed to encourage a love of learning that will last a life time. A happy, safe and stimulating community, the children thrive in the classroom and relish the opportunities on offer in art, music, dance, drama and sport.

The Senior School, a day and boarding school just over a mile away at Ford Park, strives to produce young adults who have gained confidence in learning, have been happy and secure in the process and who have achieved their full potential in a diverse educational environment. Good teaching, with a variety of activities and a high standard of care, underpins the school’s educational aims. The success in this approach can be seen in the GCSE and A Level exam results, which are consistently above the national average. Beyond the classroom, a wide range of activities are on offer such as sport, music and drama, and each pupil is encouraged to broaden his or her horizons.

As well as children from Plymouth and the surrounding areas, the Senior School welcomes pupils from all over the world including Europe, the Far East, Asia, and the Americas. The friendly, family-run boarding houses offer a home from home. As well as use of the school sports centre, the boarding house team organise a range of weekend activities including bowling, ice-skating, cinema trips, moorland walking, horse riding, boat trips and dry-slope skiing.
