A Word from the Head

Prior’s Field was graded excellent in all nine categories of the Independent Schools' Inspectorate's Report of March 2011. The school has a unique atmosphere – small enough for tailored, individual care yet large enough for a wide and exciting curriculum. Girls of all ability are welcome and the school is in the top 0.8% of all schools nationally for value-added achievement at GCSE and the top 1% at A-level. Prior’s Field offers small classes, excellent teaching, superb facilities (including a magnificent new science centre, library, multi-media digital language laboratory, sports hall and heated outdoor swimming pool) and a successful balance of challenge and support.

Pastoral care is one of Prior’s Field’s strengths and a key factor in why parents and girls choose the school. Staff know the girls well, encouraging them to be themselves, think independently and involve themselves in the many activities available which include climbing, glass-making, photography, trampolining, the equestrian team and Greenpower engineering club.

Boarding is at the heart of the school. ISI inspectors reported that girls are very happy together, feel well supported by staff and enjoy comfortable facilities. They particularly praised the range and quality of after-school and weekend activities. Weekly boarding is a popular option for London-based families and flexi-boarding (for up to two nights per week) is additionally offered for younger girls aged 11 to 13. Junior boarders live in the School House, under the care of the Junior Housemistress and resident staff. Sixth Form boarders are based in their own purpose-built house, many enjoying ensuite facilities, and are overseen by a separate Housemistress and staff team.

Prior's Field's Sixth Form offers a superb experience: with over 20 subjects, small teaching groups and personal tutors, results are excellent. In 2010, at A-level, 76% of pupils achieved A*-B grades and the pass rate was 100%. A weekly lecture programme, subject workshops, careers, UCAS and Oxbridge programmes ensure that everyone aims high. Community service options, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards, World Challenge and exciting trips overseas provide further opportunities.

A full and varied programme of activities, including socials with a number of boys’ schools, ensures that girls have the best of both worlds: the chance to excel in many different areas and to have fun along the way!

"Relationships within the school are outstanding."
ISI Report, March 2011
