A Word from the Head

Halliford School is a small independent day school for boys aged 11-18 and girls 16-18.

The administrative centre is a fine Georgian House set in six acres beside the Thames. Behind the house are modern buildings housing light and airy classrooms, laboratories, a well-equipped Information Technology Centre, Art Rooms, a Design and Technology Workshop, and four acres of playing fields (now doubled in size with the acquisition of approximately 6 acres of new playing fields 300 yards from the main gate).

Our exciting new 320-seater Assembly Hall/Theatre, a Theatre Workshop and new kitchen and dining area opened in September 2001. An extension to the main classroom block to provide additional laboratory and classroom space was completed in April 2003. A new sports hall, library and sixth form centre was completed in the summer of 2005.

THE SIXTH FORM. Halliford has a thriving co-educational Sixth Form providing a choice of 24 A-level subjects.

EXAMINATION RESULTS. In 2009 87% of pupils achieved 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE; the A-level results have improved steadily over the past ten years with a pass rate in 2009 of 94%. Most years there are successful candidates for 'Oxbridge'. However, Halliford is still pleased to accommodate boys who may not be high flyers academically but still wish to do their best at A-level.

SPORT. Sport is taken seriously at Halliford. Rugby is played in the Autumn Term; Soccer in the Spring Term, and in the Summer Term, cricket and athletics. There are also opportunities to be involved with a number of other sporting activities including rowing, basketball, squash and golf. A climbing wall has been installed in the new Sports Hall.

MUSIC. There is a school choir; a mixed instrumental group which performs a variety of music from jazz to the classics and opportunities to learn a variety of musical instruments. Each year there is keenly contested Best Soloist Competition.

DRAMA. Amongst a varied programme of activities there is a major production staged during the Autumn term.

TRANSPORT. Shepperton railway station is eight minutes' walk from the school. Regular bus services pass near the school and there are special school buses serving a wide area.

ENTRY PROCEDURE. Admission is by entrance examination, normally at 11+. There is a 13+ admission either through common entrance or a Halliford administered internal examination. Admission is also possible in other year groups should places be available. The 11+ examination takes place on the last Saturday in January in the proposed year of entry.
