A Word from the Head
Whether you visit one of the classrooms, the sports pitch or playground at Staines Prep, you’re sure to witness contented children joining in with an enthusiasm you’ll only find in a school where enjoyment is an important part of the learning experience.
Founded in 1935, Staines Prep is the area's longest established co- educational school for children aged 2½ – 11. The school has a unique ethos, where each pupil is encouraged to achieve their full potential within a secure, happy environment.
Staines Prep focuses on far more than academic achievements - the children’s wider involvements in music, drama, art and sporting activities bring to life the true spirit of the school, helping to discover and nurture life skills that help each pupil to draw the utmost enjoyment from their time at school. The school’s teaching stimulates the interests of the children, encourages personal research and fosters a lifelong love of learning. It aims to prepare pupils thoroughly for competitive 11+ entrance examinations to independent secondary schools and local grammar schools.
It remains vitally important to focus on the whole child and provide wide-ranging opportunities that help develop their confidence and general well-being. At Staines Prep we provide all of this in a nurturing environment that enables the pupils to flourish.
Staines Prep is located in the Knowle Green area of Staines, within easy walking distance of the railway station and bus stops, and a home to school bus service operates from the surrounding areas. It occupies of three substantial brick-built houses, the Burges Wing, and the Jubilee Wing.
Modern facilities include a new ICT Suite, the Peter Monger Library, a fully equipped science laboratory plus designated rooms for Art, Design and Technology and Music as well as other subject areas. All weather flood-lit court, hard surfaced playground areas and playing fields provide ample space for sport and recreation. The Leisure Centre next door is used for swimming lessons and PE.
A regular programme of visits and excursions enhance the curriculum and provide highly enjoyable learning experiences. The annual Ski Trip to Morgins, the trip to Melun and Field Trip to Derbyshire are always much enjoyed. Music is very important, and each year sees a programme of concerts and musical plays. Sport is competitive but inclusive, and there is a full fixture list of matches with other local schools.
SPS has a long history of providing excellent pastoral care. The School welcomes contact with parents and has a flourishing Friends’ Association whose activities strengthen the links between home and school. SPARKS, the School's childcare facility, operates from 7.30am in the morning and remains open until 5.30pm. There is a holiday club, which is run throughout the school vacations, except for the period between Christmas and the New Year.
Most pupils transfer to local independent secondary schools, such as Hampton School, Halliford School, Sir William Perkins's School, The Lady Eleanor Holles School, St George's College and Kingston Grammar School, and to the maintained grammar schools in Kingston, Slough and Buckinghamshire.
The points of entry to the School are in our Sunflowers Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 3. Places are sometimes available in other age groups.
