Welcome to Bradford Grammar School (BGS): a leading co-educational independent day school in Yorkshire.

Academically selective and socially inclusive, BGS offers a vibrant and supportive community in which to learn and grow.

Rich in history, we can trace our origins back to before 1548 and continue to be recognised nationally as a beacon of excellence. Old fashioned and stuffy, however, we are not. Across generations, BGS’s story remains one of confident movement with the times. Walk from the grand Price Hall through to the modern Clarkson Library, and you will be struck by the easy blend of the traditional and innovative – sector-leading educational approaches which BGS achieves for its students.

We rightly place a premium on love of learning, active engagement with academic studies and wider co-curricular interests that do much to foster character.
Underpinning all of this is a School ethos that encourages us to respect, look out for and support each other. Expert and intuitive form tutors and pastoral leaders know our children well, providing bespoke support and a steering influence.

The breadth of our peer support networks, democratic student voice forums and mentoring arrangements speak volumes about the climate here at BGS. Reflecting our School values of Excellence, Opportunity, Compassion, Determination and Service, we are a cohesive and balanced School providing a springboard into later adult life.

BGS is an aspirational and caring school that knows what it is about, but looks outwardly to make a positive impact upon the world.

Students are respected as individuals and thrive in an environment which promotes ambition and provides the tools and self-belief to aspire and achieve great things – all while remembering to have fun along the way.

      School Reviews

      Senior School Pupil

The School has taught me to seize every opportunity and believe in my own ability and how far it can take me.

      Former Student

Having a bursary at BGS made me value education that much more and really gave me motivation to maximise my potential.

      Junior School Student

I enjoy the teachers and lessons and how everyone is friendly and enthusiastic.

      Sixth Form Student

It’s not just about academic excellence but ensuring you’re happy in what you study and achieve – because that’s just as important as passing exams.

      Junior School Parent

We have been really impressed so far. Not just in the way things are so well organised and easy to follow for us parents, but in the way Clock House has had such a positive influence on him.

      Parent

I can just tell from his demeanour that he is happy. He is enthusiastic; not just about school, but at home too. I feel this is a real testament to the school’s emphasis on creating a nurturing environment which allows him to be the best version of himself.
