Five Star Catering at St Benedict's

The Catering department at St Benedict's School is celebrating a five star award following its first inspection under new management. At the start of term in January the school cancelled its contract with the external catering company and brought the catering department in-house. The Environmental Health Officer from Ealing Borough Council visited the school last week and awarded the Catering department five stars, the maximum possible.
The inspection focussed on serving food in a safe environment. Environmental Health Officer Steve James commented that the hygiene standards were comparable to those of large high street chains, which indeed is a compliment. Catering Manager, Nick Cave, was delighted: 'This is a nationally recognised award and thanks must go to the Catering staff for their continued support in implementing strict Health and Hygiene rules. We are always looking to improve our service and, most recently, have implemented better temperature controls for food.'
Howard Keep, Operations Manager, says there have been significant economic benefits for the school along with other positives. 'We are now able to source local produce and support local retailers, and long standing catering staff members, who have always worked for a contractor, are now part of the school staff.'
