Super Scribes

During January all the children in the Junior School, from Reception to Year 3, practised and perfected their penmanship in preparation for the annual Junior School Handwriting Competition.

Despite living in a world increasingly centred on digital communication, handwriting remains a core and vital skill; a skill that is valued at Gayhurst with pupils encouraged to take pride in their work and how they present it.

As always it was a hotly contested event, leaving the judges with difficult decisions to make regarding the age group winners. Each year group had a specific piece of writing that the children had to copy out. The judges then assessed each entry on the basis of letter formation, looking specifically for the correct height of the letters ascenders and descenders as well as even formation.

Prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each year group. Well done to the following children who were awarded 1st place prizes:
* Reception - Torin T
* Year 1 George B
* Year 2 Oscar T
* Year 3 Thomas A

Head of Junior School, Mrs Terrar, said 'The handwriting competition is one of the highlights of the Junior School year. It is a fantastic way to encourage the children to take pride in their writing skills and as they move through the school, it is lovely to see how each child's handwriting develops and improves every year.'
