A Creative Term

Each term the Art Department aims to provide a stimulating and creative environment in which pupils learn new skills and techniques. This term lessons have covered portraiture, graphic design and micrography.

The Spring Term has been a highly creative time for our Senior School artists. Each of them has had the opportunity to stretch themselves, trying out new techniques and developing new skills.

Year 4 became furniture designers, researching, planning and constructing a prototype of a chair designed for a specific character or occasion.

Year 5 worked in pairs on a graphic design project centred on the creation of a cereal box in which they had to come up with an original brand name and a mascot for the cover of their box.

Year 6 have been learning about the proportions of the human body through gestural pose, line drawing and 3D wire model construction.

Year 7 and 8 have focussed on portraiture and a trip to the National Portrait Gallery gave them a great insight into the many different ways artists represent a person's image or identity. In the second half of the term the pupils learned about micography, the ancient art form using words to create an image.
