Girls from the junior house Aldhelmsted West decided to give up their mobile phones for a week in order to raise funds for the charity Kids Company.
Staff joined in with the fundraiser, and managed to achieve an amazing 1409.55 in sponsorship money. The funds will go towards supporting the annual summer visit from Kids Company, a charity which was founded by Sherborne Old Girl Camila Batmanghelidjh CBE in 1996 to provide practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children.
Housemistress Hayley Vanstone said, I think initially everyone was dreading it mobile phones are such a big part of our lives these days, I think some of the girls wondered how they would ever cope! But after a couple of days several of the girls commented that it was quite liberating not to be checking their phones every five minutes and we are very proud that they did so well.
Year 8 girl Sophie Hall said, It was quite hard not being able to send or receive texts from friends or family but it was worth it when we saw how much money we raised!
