There was a great roar of celebration when St Hugh's, Faringdon, was declared winner of the 3rd Kingham Hill Junior choir Competition. Led by choir mistress, Sally Ewins, the children sang Pie Jesu and Salve Regina to a standard praised highly by the judges. The pupils were delighted by their success and glad to receive the £500 prize.
The event was held as part of Kingham Hill's May Open Day and also included choirs from St John's RC School, Banbury, The King's School Witney (runners-up) and Bampton CE Primary School. Many family members of those taking part and other supporters filled the venue, urging on their particular favourite.
The event also included some pieces performed by Kingham Hill pupils while the judges were adjudicating Alex Chalstry (Organ Scholar), Bradley Lowe (piano) and the senior Jazz Band. All involved enjoyed the school grounds and facilities after the winner was announced, and had to be dragged away from the inflatable games and ice-cream van!
