LAXTON JUNIOR SCHOOL National Inter-School Quiz 2012/13 Runners Up.

Published on isbi School News dated Wednesday 5th of June 2013

On Tuesday 14th May, the Laxton Junior School Quiz Team departed Oundle for a near two-hour journey to Harrow School for the Final of the National Inter-School Quiz Championship 2012/2013 run by Quiz Club that was to be held in the Speech Room of this historic school.

This year, more than 300 prep schools from across the country entered the Championship with the levels of general knowledge demonstrated at each of the 38 Area Heats and 5 semi-finals being of an extraordinarily high standard. The Final was no different!

The Laxton Junior School Quiz Team made up of one child from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were Thomas Allinson (8), Benjamin Barnes (9), Archie Parkinson (10) and Ally Nelson (11). The LJS Team received their invitation to attend the Final after having won their Area Heat; beating their friends (a second LJS Team) who came second, and then the LJS Team themselves gained second place in the Semi-Final.

As the Quiz progressed, with some super teamwork, strategic voting and outstanding general knowledge the gap between the Laxton Junior School team and the leaders, Northwood Prep began to diminish.

With four questions left, a correct answer to a classical musical question would have allowed the Laxton Junior team to take the lead, unfortunately the boys, stuck on the composer of a piece of music they had listened to, plumped for Beethoven instead of correctly identifying that the piece was Tchaikovsky's, and with that chance missed, Northwood Prep carried on to deservedly take the title of National Champions.

Laxton Junior School were runners up by a mere 85 points (2070 to 1985) in this, the first year that they have entered the competition. Mark Potter, Headmaster of LJS commented, 'The children can be extremely proud of their achievement; as we all are proud of them here at the School. The boys received rapturous applause as they received their certificates in assembly the following day and will remember the experience for many years to come'.

Laxton Junior School will certainly be entering again next year!
