Sherborne Girls support Piers Simons' School in a Bag charity

Published Monday 10th of June 2013 11:16:10 AM

Girls from Kenelm house were busy this weekend packing school bags - not for themselves, but for the Piers Simon Appeal, at the Home Farm Fest in Chilthorne Domer.

The girls used half of the proceeds from their 'Valentine Roses' fundraiser earlier in the year to put towards creating 70 of the charity school bags - at a cost of £15 a bag - and then decided to help out further by attending the annual music festival to help pack the bags themselves.

Each bag contains a lunchbox and 'spork', a water bottle, pencils, biros, a ruler and maths set and exercise books. They are distributed to help poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster affected children throughout the world, in the hope that the resources that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and above all learn.

School in a Bag is an initiative run by the UK registered charity the Piers Simon Appeal, set up in memory of Somerset born Piers, tragically killed in the Indian Ocean Tsunami 26 December 2004 aged just 23 years old. For more information, please view and
