COBHAM STUDENTS CELEBRATE FINAL YEAR AT GRADUATION

Published Friday 14th of June 2013 03:12:28 PM

Over 130 students, aged 17 to 18, from ACS Cobham International School celebrated the achievements of their final year with a poignant graduation ceremony last week.
Attended by over 1000 parents, teachers and friends, the ceremony marked the end of the students time at the school. The ceremony was also streamed live online, so that family and friends around the worldwide could watch in real time and enjoy seeing the students celebrating all their hard work from their school careers.

Students graduating the High School this year have recently completed their High School Diplomas, with students studying either the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) or the Advanced Placement (AP).

An internationally recognised qualification, the IBDP is highly regarded by universities around the world. The AP courses enable students to earn valuable credit at universities in North America, which are keen to accept students who show they are hard-working and committed.

This was a particularly memorable ceremony for High School Principal, Steve Baker, who presented students with their certificates, as he retires after 35 years in September. He commented:

I was reminded that this is the 34th Graduation Ceremony that I have attended at ACS Cobham, the first being back in 1979. That first graduating class of 1979 has kept in touch over all these years and I hope this years class will continue to work with their fellow students all over the world.

No one knows what the future holds and no-one can accurately predict the opportunities that lie ahead, but one thing I do know, this years cohort have been extremely well prepared for the future and it is now theirs to grasp. It gave me great pleasure to present the Class of 2013.

Students were addressed by inspirational guest speaker, Bjorn Kvarby, CEO of Next Performance, an innovative online advertising company, and also an ACS Alumnus.

This years cohort also elected students, Matthew Evans, Felix Blom, Michael van Maris van Dijk and Sophie Montgomery to present the graduating speeches. The addresses included a vote of thanks to the teachers, amusing anecdotes about their time at ACS Cobham and ended wishing everyone well in their next adventures.

Tony Eysele, Head of School at ACS Cobham, commented on the graduation ceremony:

This graduation celebrates all the hard work put in by teachers, parents and students. This years graduates have made a lasting impression at ACS Cobham and been wonderful role models in so many areas of school life. Id like to wish the students every success as they embark on the road of shaping the future in the way they want it to be.
