A drop in the bucket ...

Last Saturday we had our final coppers to water event of this academic year. JCB very kindly lent us one of their machines which parked up in Chipping Norton at 8.30 that morning just in front of WH Smiths, right in the centre of town.
During the week leading up to the event some heroic pupils had leafleted the area, sometimes in pouring rain, and many of the local shops and businesses were displaying posters. Five students had also visited Kingham Primary School where we led an assembly to let that community know about the event.
Divided into teams throughout the day, 31 pupils helped out promoting the campaign in town and did the school proud with their cheerful attitude and willingness to put themselves out for the cause.
Once the coins were all totted up, we found that the proceeds from the day amounted to just over 1,000 which was a terrific achievement. We are very grateful for the most generous support of the people of Chipping Norton and the surrounding area. We are also just waiting for a valuation of some old pennies, some dating back to the Victorian era to add to the total.
When this is added to the own clothes day money that we received during the previous week, we will soon be sending off around 1250 to charity:water to add to the proceeds of last terms efforts. You can track this on www.copperstowater.org.uk and follow the links on there.
