Mathemagic - maths with a difference

As part of a special Maths Week boys from Aldwickbury School were treated to a lesson with a difference

On Tuesday (11th June) Mathemagician Andrew Jeffrey paid Aldiwckbury School in Harpenden a visit.

The children, from Reception to Year 8, were taken on a magical journey; a journey which, from the start, intertwined magic with clear positive and motivational messages about the learning of maths. The boys, and teachers, were delighted by what they saw and without knowing it were thinking mathematically and solving problems.
From throwing and catching imaginary red fluff to multiplying sponges, appearing numbers and transforming shapes the audience were entranced and completely engaged.
The magical event proved to be the highlight of the school's Maths Week and has left the staff and children enthused about mathematics. Teacher Lesley McFarlane Welsh, who organised the event, said, "We appreciated and enjoyed Andrew's outstanding, maths packed shows today. We have had the most fantastic day of laughter, inspiration and fun."
