Sherborne Girls receive International Baccalaureate (IB) results

Over 127,000 students worldwide received their IB Diploma Programme results this week including the students of Sherborne Girls in Dorset.

The group of U6 girls, who have been studying the programme for two years, received their results ahead of A Level students, which means many of them can now confirm their university places.

The IB qualification was founded in 1968, and offers an alternative route to traditional AS/A Levels. Increasing in popularity in schools across the UK, it is a highly challenging course and requires students to study six subjects, which usually include English, Maths, a Science, a Humanities subject, a Language and an Art subject, as well as a core of activity which includes an Extended Essay and a Creativity, Action and Service module. Students can achieve a maximum of 7 points per subject: at Sherborne Girls, the average total points score achieved was 34.3 out of a maximum of 45, which compared very favourably to the IB World Standard of 29.8 points.

Furthermore, 55% of the individual subject results were achieved at the highest grades of 7 and 6 (equivalent to A* or A at A Level) compared with the World Standard of just 27% of candidates achieving these grades.

Of the Sherborne Girls, Alexandra Suter achieved an amazing 44 points, a result which puts her in the top 1% of those entering the exams across the world. She is taking a year out to work overseas in preparation of applying to Cambridge to study French. Amelie Jannoe achieved 41 points, putting her in the top 4% of achievers worldwide, and she has a place at the University of Bath to read Business Administration. Philippa Williams achieved 39 points and will go on to study Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College. Eva Lamade scored 38 points and will be reading Psychlogy at the University of Sussex.

David Banks, IB Coordinator at the School said, 'These really are outstanding results. Our IB students can be confident that they now possess the skills needed to excel in an increasingly international world. We wish each of them the very best of luck and we look forward to following their achievements at university and beyond.'
