LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION Filmmaking camp for ACS Cobham students

Published Wednesday 24th of July 2013 12:37:58 PM

Students at ACS Cobham International School hosted their own film festival showcase this summer as part of the Lights, Camera, Action activity camp. As part of the five day course, fifteen students acted in, directed and produced films with the help of two of the schools specialised teachers.
Lights, Camera, Action was aimed at children aged eleven to thirteen who spent the week in a variety of fun-filled activity sessions, which developed and used real-world skills. The camp allowed those interested in acting, editing, directing and filming to experience all the different aspects of filmmaking.

Script writing, special effects, camera angles and editing techniques were all on offer as activity classes throughout the week. One class taught students how to build on-screen tension through editing styles. Students worked with top quality equipment and specialised software, with the help of Media and Broadcasting teacher, Brianna Gray, and IT teacher, Alexandra Read.

Action, comedy and drama were all on offer at the film showcase, as each team made use of special effects, created animated credits, trailers and DVD covers for their films.
Brianna Gray commented:

The students really enjoyed exploring new filmmaking techniques, from screen writing, to acting, camera work, and all of the processes that take place in the editing studio. Filming allowed us to capture the summer and spirit of camp life whilst learning lasting real world technology skills. Both the students and staff had a great week, and the feedback from those who attended the movie premiere was extremely positive. We can't wait to run it again next year!

Lights, Camera, Action was just one of the many Activity Camps ACS Cobham runs throughout the summer. Other camps include specialised sports, Early Years and Multi-Activity Camps, all held on ACS Cobhams 128-acre campus. Next years summer camps will be able to make use of the schools new Performing Arts Centre, currently under construction, which will include a fly-tower, state-of-the-art rigging and lighting equipment and performance area.
