Nigel and Nicola Witherden enjoyed a very special day at Lords for the YB.40 between Nottinghamshire and Glamorgan, following an unexpected invitation from the MCC in recognition of Nigel's outstanding work as Head Groundsman of Bishop's Stortford College's extensive 100 acres of playing fields. MCC captain Mark Everitt nominated Nigel for the honour after being so impressed with the College's cricket grounds and hospitality for the MCC's annual match against the school's 1st XI.

Describing the day, Nigel said: 'We were treated to a very memorable day, being greeted in the committee room by the president of the MCC Mike Gatting and the president of Middlesex Clive Radley. We were among fifteen other people from all over the country and were honoured to watch the game from the same spot as the Queen. We were offered Champagne and Pimms followed by a four course meal in the committee dining room on the top floor of the Main Pavilion! We then returned to our privileged seats to watch the end of the game. Nicola and I had a fantastic day and were treated so well, even having our own butler!!'

Following in his father's footsteps, Nigel has looked after Bishop's Stortford College sports fields for the past 38 years.
