Published Thursday 5th of December 2013 11:25:26 AM

A choir from St Margaret's Preparatory School, Calne, hit all the right notes when they gave outstanding performances on two nights running.

The school's Chamber Choir performed in a concert to an audience of more than 300 people in the Chapel at St Mary's, Calne, last Saturday to help raise money for a military charity. They joined forces with the Warminster Military Wives Choir and the Chamber Choir of St Mary's to raise more than £6,000 in aid of the Armed Forces Fund, which was established to support the secondary education of children who have a parent, of any rank, killed or wounded in active service. St Mary's have just accepted their first pupil who is being supported by the Fund.

At the end of the evening all the Choirs took to the stage for the Cantabile Company Finale to perform 'Sing' by Gary Barlow and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Land of Hope and Glory.
This performance by Chamber Choir came the day after they were named the Winner of the Choir Class in the Devizes Eisteddfod.

The Choir, made up of children from Year 5 and Year 6 won the Choir 11 and Under Category, when they performed in St John's Church and were awarded the highest accolade of 'Honours'. They then went on to win the Choir Class overall, retaining the Bob May Memorial Plate which was won by the school last year. Other outstanding performances by St Margaret's pupils in the Eisteddfod came when the Recorder Ensemble won the recorder Group 12 and under. Year 5 pupil Sophie won the News Reading 11 and under class, which was judged by Gazette reporter Lewis Cowen, and Ella won the best artist overall.

Both the Chamber Choir and the recorder ensemble played in the evening concert at The Town Hall which was hosted by Mr Cowen.
