Aldwickbury Boys Raise over £10,000 for Typhoon Hiayan

Published Tuesday 7th of January 2014 11:31:23 AM

Two Aldwickbury School boys decided to take action when one of their fellow students hadn't heard about the devastating effect of Typhoon Hiayan in the Philippines.
Determined to make sure all the boys in the School were aware of the situation William Berrecloth and Angus Clifford asked if they could speak at the whole school assembly; from here they organised a mufti day, where the school were encouraged to wear the colours of the Philippine flag and a sponsored race.
Through the generosity of friends and family an amazing £10,250.83 was raised. The money has gone to Shelter Box who have supplied their emergency boxes already to the people of the Philippines.
Angus and William, when asked about the money they raised, said, 'We are really pleased, we didn't expect to raise so much money. Thank you to the teachers and boys who joined in with the day
Headmaster, Vernon Hales, was extremely proud of the pupils; 'What an amazing achievement. We are very proud of the efforts of not only William and Angus but of the way the whole School community have come together to help the people of the Philippines.'
