ACS Hillingdon bake sale record success

Published Thursday 9th of January 2014 02:13:54 PM

Two students, Sloane Dunker and Annabel Dewey, both aged eight, have recently broken the ACS Hillingdon Lower School bake sale fundraising record. The pair, alongside a team of teachers, parents and fellow pupils, raised 571.80 for the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

The Trust helps protect endangered African elephants and both students were inspired to take action following an article they read in First News, a weekly childrens newspaper.

The fundraising team baked themed treats including elephant rice krispy cakes and cupcakes to sell during the lunch hour; the bake sale was a complete sell out.

Sloane and Annabel took their goal very seriously and following a thorough planning and research phase, the girls presented a 10 minute presentation to their third grade peers to ask for their support in baking. They later repeated the presentation to the entire Lower School assembly and their parents to help raise awareness of their fundraising event.

Michelle Eriksen, Lower School Principal, commented:

We were very impressed with the girls initiative, work ethic and perseverance; their passion to help is a lesson to us all. Through their learning, we hope all our students feel inspired to make a difference. Way to go, Sloane and Annabel!
