Ballet in a Boys' School

Published Tuesday 25th of January 2011 12:24:10 PM

The Year 6 boys at Aldwickbury took part in a superb workshop taken by the English National Ballet School's Link Programme. They were introduced to the basics of ballet and performance which lead them to perform a scene from Romeo and Juliet. Pit against one another as Capulets and Montagues they became aware of how important it is to stay in character as well as how difficult it is to dance quickly! The boys then went to the Coliseum theatre in London to see how the professionals do it and were thrilled to see 'their' scene performed!

This is the fourth year the English National Ballet have come to Aldwickbury and each year it is amazing to see the skills of their teachers break down the boys' stereotype expectations and get them to engage in the activities. It is very rewarding when one of the boys ends the session asking where he can take ballet lessons or goes home to ask his parents to take him to the ballet.

The ENB are keen to ballet to be appreciated by anyone no matter what their background and we are pleased to support them in their endeavours.
