Citizenship Day at St Benedicts

Published Monday 3rd of March 2014 12:07:51 PM

On Tuesday 11th February it was Citizenship Day at St Benedicts Junior School. The children came to school dressed as firemen, teachers, police, doctors and many more. The day was dedicated to teaching the children what it meant to be a good citizen.

Steve Pound, MP for Ealing North and Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary took time out of his very busy schedule to come and speak to Years 5 and 6 about life as an MP. The children were absolutely fascinated: He was brilliant, that was really inspiring.

Other visitors to the school included the Fire Brigade, Police, Ambulance Service and Doctor Gordon. Doctor Gordon was a huge success with the younger members of the school. Reception children also loved meeting the police and being able to climb on the fire engine. There were workshops with CAFOD and a representative from the charity My Big Career.

Teacher Rebecca Machin was responsible for the organisation. I was very pleased that the children seemed to have such an enjoyable day and hopefully learnt a lot about what it means to be a good citizen. Our speakers were inspirational and I am grateful to them for giving up their time to come to the school.
