Girls from St Swithun's School, Winchester recently competed in the British Schoolgirls Ski Races 2011 in Flaine, France and achieved the best set of results in recent years.

A total of 54 teams of three skiers took part in the annual races at the end of January. St Swithun's A team came in an impressive 4th place among the teams of unregistered (non-professional) racers, beating A teams from Millfield, Cheltenham, Downe House, Sherborne, Wellington and Tudor Hall among many others. St Swithun's B team also performed well, gaining a very creditable 19th place among unregistered teams and beating the B teams of St Mary's Ascot, Wycombe Abbey, Millfield and Aiglon College among others. The girls showed incredible tenacity and bravery to complete the incredibly icy course, on which many skiers fell.

In the combined results for the 4 races (2 slalom and 2 giant slalom), 15 year-old St Swithun's pupil Isabella Hardy , from Whitchurch, came 3rd in the Junior 1 Category with other A team members Lexi Radkiewicz, 14, from Midhurst and Ali Bayliss, 14, from Curdridge coming 7th and 16th respectively in the Child II Category. Georgie Baylis, 12, from Curdridge, finished a very creditable 5th place in the Child I Category.
