Spectacular Brahms Requiem in King's College Chapel

Published by Oakham School on Friday 28th of March 2014

Oakham School Chapel Choir gave a stunning performance of Brahms' masterpiece, A German Requiem, in the iconic chapel of King's College, Cambridge.

During the concert, the choir was joined by international star and Old Oakhamian, bass-baritone Michael George, whose warm vocal resonance filled the chapel.

The concert also featured performances by leading Form 7 soloists from Oakham School, soprano Olivia Carrell, who sang Delius' serene and lyrical work 'A late lark' with beautiful vocal tone, and 'cellist Lucy-Rose Graham, who gave a compelling performance of Bruch's impassioned Kol Nidrei.

Peter Davis, Oakham School's Director of Music, said, 'the Requiem itself was both thrilling and moving, the choir and orchestra capturing each emotion of this tour de force of choral music.' He added, 'It was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to perform, to a full audience, in this glorious setting. The audience were swept away by the extraordinarily high calibre of the choir and our soloists.'
