Canford rowers are celebrating excellent success at the Schools Head of the River Race 2014 in London on Wednesday 26th March.
The Canford 1st VIII boat was the fastest in its category over the Chiswick to Putney 4.25mile course, the same used for the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race. The crew of Oli Stocks, Bertie Gregory, Freddie Kuhle, Henry Galbraith, Aryan Sheikhalian, Jonathan Naylor, Harry Griffiths, Scott Catto and coxed by Eloise Grant had an impressive row over the Championship course. The winning time of 17 minutes 13 seconds is a new record for this category and puts Canford in the top 10 schools in the country at this stage of the season, faster than five of the Championship VIII crews.

There were also excellent performances from our other crews. The Senior Boys Coxed Four came 12th, the Senior Girls Eight finished 14th and the J16 Boys were placed 10th.

The Schools Head of the River Race forms one third of the prestigious rowing 'treble' of the National Schools Regatta and the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta.
Following this success, Canfordian Jonathan Naylor has been selected for the GB Rowing in the boys sweep group at Munich in May, and Canford Head Rowing Coach Ian Dryden will be a lead coach.
Ian Dryden, Head Coach, commented:

I am extremely proud of our excellent rows in what is considered one of the major school rowing events. Both our senior and our junior performances were strong, which bodes very well for Canford rowing this season and beyond. Congratulations also to Jonathan on his fine selection success for the GB squad.
