Grade VIII distinctions among recent Music examination success at Canford

Canford pupils are celebrating excellent successes in recent external Music examinations from the ABRSM and Trinity boards.

Ten pupils were awarded the top distinction grade, including five at Grade VIII. Among these Grade VIII performances were two pupils in the fourth form (year 10), Honor Hornsby for Singing and William McKenna for Alto Saxophone. These are outstanding achievements for their age. Meanwhile Rupert Dugdale added a Grade VIII merit in Piano to his choral scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford which he was awarded in January.

Including theory examinations, 25% of all entries gained distinctions and 70% were awarded either distinctions or merits. A wide range of instruments were examined, including Trombone, Trumpet, Clarinet, Flute and Oboe.

Christopher Sparkhall, Director of Music, was delighted with the results: I am very pleased that our pupils efforts have been so well rewarded with these splendid results across a range of instruments and grades. Distinctions are particularly hard won, especially at Grade VIII, and in the younger age groups. However I applaud all those who took examinations for their wonderful successes.
