Three sporty pupils from St Margaret's Preparatory School in Calne qualified to compete in a national biathlon contest which will be held at the Olympic Park in London.

Amy Bolton, Archie Hughes and Nick Manners-Bell qualified at a regional heat at Millfield and took part in the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships on April 5 and 6.

The final involved a 50m swim in the Olympic pool and a run of 800m around the concourse of the park.

St Margarets sports teacher Sophie White said: Hundreds and hundreds of pupils from schools across the country originally entered the competition. After the heats, all of the times were compiled centrally by the organisers and those with the highest rankings were invited to take part in the London final.

Amy qualified for the U10 event, Archie for the U11 and Nick in the U12s.

I was thrilled that Nick, Archie and Amy qualified for this special event in London. It is the first competition held at the Olympic Park since the Olympics in 2012 and it provided an exciting opportunity for them to race against other children from all over the country; to be racing at this national level is such an achievement.
