Frank Hadden Returns to Merchiston

Published Thursday 24th of February 2011 04:06:53 PM

This weeks visitor at the Headmasters Assembly was Mr Frank Hadden, who taught at Merchiston from 19832000. The way in which he coached sport during his time at the School was indicative of a man with a real attention to detail and this sat alongside a tremendous vision. Frank coached professional rugby for ten years at Edinburgh and Scotland (in his time, Edinburgh reached the Heineken Cup quarter finals) and he coached Scottish Representative teams for 17 years, culminating with the national team for 200509. Over the last 2 years, he has coached in 20 different countries mainly for the Penguin Coaching Academy. The Penguins are a touring team who operate at a notch below the Barbarians. The Penguin Coaching Academy has recently been founded, which supports not only the Penguins on their trips (this year to Brazil, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore) but also the British Lions in South Africa last year and the Asia 5Nations. Last year Frank spent 4 months in Asia as a result of this. Just before the Hong Kong Sevens he was asked to take a session with the Rwandan National team in Hong Kong and in December spent a week in Rwanda coaching not only their National team but also womens rugby, U18s and U14s. This week, Frank asked Merchiston to help him with a donation in the form of rugby or football boots. Franks, full script can be accessed via the Merchiston Castle School website. Merchiston are delighted to support this venture and the boys are eagerly looking for suitable boots to donate.
