Sherborne Girls is pleased to announce the appointment of a new sports coach with responsibility for delivering the performance swimming scholarship programme which launches this September.

Mark Rawle is currently responsible for the many recent regional and national successes of Yeovil District Swimming Club, where he has been Head Coach for the past three years. He was one of 80 coaches selected throughout the UK to participate in the ASA Advanced Coaching Offer Programme (as part of the Olympic legacy) and has also coached on the ASA England Talent programmes and the ASA Beacon programme.

Head of Sport at Sherborne Girls Nicky Matthias said, We are delighted that Mark is joining us to deliver our exciting new scholarship programme. This means that competitive swimmers can combine their high performance training with an exceptional academic programme at either GCSE, A Level or IB, giving those students the best opportunity to achieve their potential as young athletes, as well as in their academic careers.

Entry to the scholarship programme is restricted to swimmers with a minimum of Regional Standard within the ASA national criteria, who can also demonstrate a high academic profile. Four swimming scholars will join the programme in September 2014, all of whom are South West Regional Finalists. As well as joining their peers in their academic programme, swimming scholars will be entitled to an individualised training programme including 18 hours a week pool training and 5 land training sessions, plus additional training with Yeovil District Swimming Club. Scholars will have their own boarding accommodation enabling adapted meal-times and early starts and finishes to their day, with the full-time support of a resident swimming mentor and an academic mentor.

The facilities at Sherborne Girls include the 6 lane 25 metre indoor pool with a state-of-the-art Daktronic timing system at Oxley Sports Centre which enables continuous training for Sherborne Girls throughout the year, including early morning sessions, as well as a fully equipped gym and fitness suite for land training.

The scholarship programme is now accepting entries for 2015; for more information please visit www.sherborne.com/swimming
