The first woman to row the Atlantic twice visits Sherborne Girls

The first speaker of the Michaelmas Term, Sally Kettle, was greeted by a packed School Hall, all eager to hear what she had to say; Sally did not disappoint!

Sally Kettle's credentials are impressive: she is an adventurer, a marathon runner, a personal trainer and an author, not to mention that she is the first woman to row the Atlantic Ocean twice from East to West, and once with her mother, earning a Guinness World Record. And it was this story, of the trials and tribulations of first mustering the courage to embark on a journey across the Atlantic Ocean and the subsequent difficulties that led her to ask her mother to accompany her that kept all in the hall riveted on Friday evening. Physical hardship, emotional distress, whales, storms and even a shark all contributed to Sally's extraordinary account of how she overcame these obstacles to achieve something that at first appeared impossible.

Sally's message was simple; we are all so much more capable than we think we are and you too can achieve your dreams with hard work, commitment and grit.

All in the hall were touched by her story and judging by the buzz at the end of the lecture, inspired to begin their own adventure!
