Teachers, parents and students from ACS Egham recently organised a charity fundraising dinner at the Runnymede-on-Thames Hotel, Egham, in aid of Project Nepal.

Project Nepal 2015 is a five-year commitment, made by ACS International Schools, to facilitate cultural exchange and help improve the living conditions and education of disadvantaged communities in the eastern corner of the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.

The scheme will eventually see 38 students, aged 14 to 17, travel to Shree Mahendra, Nepal, where they will build relationships with the local community and work with laborers to help restore the Shree Mahendra Secondary School.

Following a variety of fundraising events, including a school music concert earlier in the year, the dinner united 170 teachers, families and local businessmen from the ACS International School community. A key focus of the evening were silent and live auctions, with attendees bidding on high worth items such as Barclays Premier League football match tickets; luxury driving experiences, and even a holiday to the Amalfi coast.

Guests were also encouraged to partake in a 'Buy a Brick' scheme, an ongoing initiative that enables families or individuals to contribute towards the reconstruction of the Shree Mahendra School. Each £10 donation receives a personalised brick and contributes towards vital learning resources such as white boards, sports equipment and books.

Lauren Dean, ACS Egham teacher, commented on the success of the dinner:

"The local community has time and time again shown their commitment to helping ACS teach our students about the power of taking action, and this incredibly successful fundraising event was no exception. With many thanks to all who have come together to grow and support the program, Project Nepal students will undoubtedly achieve our goal of helping each other to create two strong communities."
