Students from ACS Cobham, aged 12-13 years old, recently travelled to Somerset for a five-day trip to Nettlecombe Court, a residential field study centre that promotes learning through adventure and outdoor activity.

During the trip students explored the Exmoor National Park, studying the river systems and ecology of the local area. Contributing towards coursework in science, language arts and social studies, students visited Lynmouth, Devon, gathering information for case studies and learning about the 1952 flood disaster and the way in which the Lyn river has since been managed.

Another key focus of the trip was to develop the students self-confidence and independence, channelled through activities such as high roping and food production.

Commenting on the success of the trip, Brianna Gray, ACS Cobham teacher and trip leader, said:

It was a fantastic experience that really established the seventh grade as a bonded, caring community. Friendships have flourished and their confidence has grown which should help as they progress through the academic year.
