A project by ACS Hillingdon student, Andreas Eriksen, (Grade 12), to improve digital skills in the local community was selected as a winning innovation of the TEDxTeen and O2 Think Big Project, which is designed to empower young people who want to make changes to their communities. Andreas will receive 300 to help with the implementation of his idea.

Speakers at this years TEDxTeen were all considered remarkable disrupters and included Erik Finman, a 15 year old entrepreneur who raised funds using bitcoins to start up his own educational community; Josh Valman, aged 19 who is the managing director of RPD International, a global design and manufacturing company; and Ashima Shiraishi, aged 13, who is one of the strongest climbers in the world.

Speaking after the event, Andreas commented:

I was astonished when I saw my name on the list of project winners! I am excited about exploring possible ways to make the best use of the 300 to help people.

Dawn Ekstrom, High School Principal at ACS Hillingdon, added:

TEDxTEEN 2014 was an incredible opportunity for our students to hear from experienced professionals in the industries that excite them the most. The ability to articulate thoughts and ideas, particularly to large audiences, is an invaluable life skill. Congratulations and well done to all our students who took part.
