It has been another fantastic term on the hockey field at Chafyn Grove School. The girls have been playing some wonderful hockey with girls aged 7-13 all training and playing matches on a regular basis. The 1st team (u13s) have been doing remarkably well this year. On top of their unbeaten season in their school fixtures, they narrowly lost to Cranleigh School in the National Hockey Final, held at Queenswood School, Hertfordshire (on November 18th) by just a Golden Goal in extra time - so close to winning the National Title! On the way to their silver medal they beat Gresham's School in the Quarter Finals and Hazelgrove in the semis.
Chafyn Grove's U11 hockey team qualified by a fine performance in the regional competition to join 23 teams at the National Finals held at Repton School on November 14th. There the team played matches against schools from all over the country and came a respectable 11th overall. They were excited to meet GB player, Georgie Twigg, who was very encouraging, showed them her Olympic medal and signed their hockey sticks.
The school's hockey seems to go from strength to strength with the under11 boys reaching the semi-finals of the National Finals last season and the boys' 1st team (under 13s) being National Champions in 2013. Director of Sport, Mr Will Hearsey said, 'Chafyn is really punching above its weight on the hockey field'.
