ACS Cobham students, aged 11 to 16 years, recently took part in a series of musical workshops hosted by acclaimed musician Steve Pretty, to develop performance skills and enhance their music curriculum.

Steve Pretty, a professional musician who has worked with artists such as Amy Winehouse and Jarvis Cocker, delivered combined workshops to pupils as part of the ACS 'Artist in Residence' Programme. The scheme includes a community outreach component, which allowed members of local Cranleigh schools to also join in the day's activities.

With an impressive background of working with brass bands, including the Hackney Colliery Band with which he completed an extended set at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, Steve inspired the students whilst imparting his invaluable expertise.

During the workshops, students had the opportunity to practice with a range of instruments whilst working in groups to improve their co-operative learning skills. Taking place in the school's newly opened Performing Arts Centre, students showcased their musical talent in a final concert that united over 80 Lower and Middle School students and staff.

Simon Cook, ACS Music teacher, commented:

'The workshops were a fantastic experience for students who had a chance to learn from the very best in the music industry. Steve's experience and knowledge inspired pupils and will help enormously as they develop their own musical careers.'
