Tribes of the Amazon come alive for Chafyn Grove

Pupils at Chafyn Grove were treated to a fascinating and thought provoking talk about the Tribes of the Amazonian Rainforest this week, given by Sue and Patrick Cunningham. Funded by an award from the Royal Geographical Society, the couple recently spent six months travelling 1500 miles down the Xingu River in a tiny boat, visiting people from 17 different indigenous tribes and learning about their way of life. Their talk was beautifully illustrated by their photographs and heightened the children's awareness of the threat made by deforestation to the Indian lifestyle and the World's climate. The talk inspired many thoughtful questions from the children.

Sue has recently appeared on TV with some of the tribal leaders as they try to raise support for the protection of the rain- forest against developers.
