Lauren's Fantastic Fundraising!
Published by Embley on Wednesday 28th of January 2015
Last week, Hampshire Collegiate School (HCS) pupil, Lauren Chamberlain, Year 11, and her mother, Gill travelled to the offices of SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents) at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. The reason for the visit was to present a cheque for £5,116,59 raised by Lauren's fundraising effort.Lauren, now 16, was born 9 weeks prematurely, weighing just 3lbs and 2ozs.
'I nominated to support the charity as it provided vital support for me and my family when I was born. As I approached my 16th birthday I felt I wanted to give something back to SSNAP.' said Lauren.
The fantastic amount of money raised was made possible, not only by Lauren's enthusiasm but also the support of her friends in Year 11 and the wider Hampshire Collegiate School community.
Over the past year Lauren has organised a series of initiatives and events. Money was raised from:
* 50% of proceeds of Hampshire Collegiate School Carol Service 2013 (Dec 2013)
* Romsey Relay Marathon (April 2014). A group of ten of Lauren's peers (last year's Year 10 pupils) made up the team.
* Cake sale at Hampshire Collegiate School (Summer term 2014)
* Hampshire Collegiate School Charity Fashion Show (October 2014)
Louise Cooper, fundraising officer for SSNAP received the cheque. 'On behalf of all the parents and families I would like to say well done to Lauren and her school mates on such a fantastic achievement. The money will go towards, equipment, nurse training and parent support and advice.' she said.
