ACS Cobham International School welcomed Professor A.C. Grayling on Tuesday 20th January to present an inspiring talk to grade ten and 11 students about the continuing importance of studying Humanities.

The talk, attended by over 300 students, focused on how further studies and personal enrichment in Humanities is not only invaluable preparation for the world of work, but is also a life-enhancing experience in its own right. Concepts such as knowledge acquisition, art, and the meaning of life were all explored in a thought-provoking open discussion with Professor Grayling.

Professor Grayling is master of New College of the Humanities, London, and is currently the Vice President of the British Humanist Association. Apart from having written and edited over 30 books on philosophy, Professor Grayling has written for the Guardian, the Times, and the Observer, and is a regular broadcaster on BBC Radio 3 and 4.

The talk provided students with an opportunity to learn more about their options with regards to further education and life beyond school.

Haleh Agar, Highly Able Coordinator at ACS Cobham, commented:

It can be easy for students to recognise the value in pursuing studies or enrichment in the sciences, but it is important to give them a balanced view by including the Humanities. Professor Grayling was really inspiring; as students were leaving the theatre I heard many of them discussing the ideas he presented, and many stayed behind to discuss the concepts further with him.
