Mayfields Easter & Summer Camps ignite childrens creative spark!

Published Wednesday 18th of February 2015 11:18:33 AM

The first season of Mayfield Schools SPARK Camp received such an emphatic thumbs-up from over seventy boys and girls who attended its workshops over the summer holidays that it will be returning this Easter (7th 10th April) and Summer (27th - 31st July and 3rd 7th August) .

The children, who ranged in age from just 5 up to 13, took full advantage of the independent all-girls schools extensive facilities last August. They played netball and tennis on the new courts, took part in athletics and hockey workshops on the recently refurbished astro-turf and escaped the hot summer sun with a dip in the Schools huge swimming pool.

Older children spent hours in the purpose-built science block, exploring the amazing way the human body works and learning forensic science techniques at a murder mystery scene. While the camps were designed to educate and challenge each childs intellectual curiosity, the main focus was on having fun. They tried their hands at a variety of creative arts and learnt how to bake a selection of cakes and pastries - which they enjoyed sampling very much! As one child commented:

Even the maths was fun!

Mayfield has been running Mayfield Spark Dance, its own dance school, for nearly two years. It was the success of this venture that inspired Spark Manager Helen Miller to utilise the Schools extensive facilities to offer sports, cookery and a range of creative skills during the school holidays. Mrs Miller, herself a mother of three, is delighted with the success of Spark Camp. She comments:
The children who attended the summer camps were a really great bunch, and they made it a joy to organise and run. We are so fortunate at Mayfield to have such fantastic facilities and it was great to be able to share them with children from the local community - as well as an awful lot of fun!

Mayfield Spark Camps is returning this year in both the Easter and Summer holidays. Full details are available at www.mayfieldgirls.org/sparkcamps
