Following the success of the St Benedict's School senior team in the Rotary Club Youth Speaks Competition last year, this year it was the turn of the intermediate team to do well. The team won the Ealing area round of the competition, hosted by St Benedict's on Wednesday 25th February. Emily Sawyer (Year 8 Chairperson), Siddharth Vickraman (Year 9 Speaker) and Louis Miles (Year 9 - Proposer of the Vote of Thanks) followed up this local victory by also winning the London area final of the competition, held at City of London School for Boys on Saturday 28th February.

In the London competition the St Benedict's intermediate team not only won the award for best overall team, but all three pupils won the award for best performer in their specific role. Dr Hilary Harper, English teacher at St Benedict's, who accompanied the pupils, said, 'This is a wonderful achievement for the team. It is the reward for all the hard work they have put in, writing and practising their speeches.'

The next regional round of the Youth Speaks competition will be on 21st March.
