Oakham's U15 rugby team are through to the Natwest Vase final after putting in a powerful performance against Bishop Wordsworth's School. Oakham will now face Sherborne School in the final on 25 March, held at the renowned Twickenham Stadium.Oakham captain Tyrese Johnson-Fisher led his team to an incredible 47-27 victory, scoring four tries. This included a hat-trick in the first half, with the first try scored after just 3 minutes and converted by fly half Seb Davies.
'Tyrese has the ability to score from anywhere, he is a very powerful runner,' said Director of Rugby Ian Smith. 'The scoreline in some ways flatters us, but in others it shows the potential that this side has. If they play as well as they can they can look forward to a great day out at Twickenham.'
The boys have just over 2 weeks to prepare for the final at Twickenham familiar territory for Oakhamians, who have twice won the U18 Cup there, as well as being runners-up in the U18 Cup and the U15 Vase.
Oakham has a strong sporting heritage, with many players going on to play professional rugby. Most recently, four Old Oakhamian rugby talents represented their countries in Six Nations rugby matches: Alex Goode (06) Tom Croft (04), Hamish Watson (10) and Ruaraidh Smith (12).
