ACS Cobham appoints first performing arts theatre technician

Published Friday 20th of March 2015 10:09:23 AM

ACS Cobham has recently appointed a theatre technician, John Baddeley, to manage its new 509-seat Performing Arts Centre which opened last September.

An expert in sound, lighting and live events technology, John has previously worked for AV companies, providing technical expertise in entertainment AV, lighting, sound, curtaining and stage-engineering. Having worked at various other educational institutions across the world delivering technical support, most recently at Surrey University as a venue technician and stage manager, John brings a wealth of experience that will allow both staff and students to get the most out of the new Performing Arts Centre.

ACS Cobhams Performing Arts Centre provides students with the opportunity to explore the technical side of performance using professional-standard equipment, including a 52-channel Yamaha sound mixing desk, sound system, and a full LED lighting suite. A tension wire grid also allows students to access lights easily and safely, removing the need for any scaffolding towers. ACS Cobham is one of only a handful of schools in the UK to have a fly tower, which will help move large pieces of scenery quickly during performances.

Reflecting on his appointment, John added: Its a privilege to be managing the day-to-day technical operations at this fantastic new facility. Im really looking forward to building up a strong student technician team and supporting their development as they use the new equipment and systems to enhance performances.
