'Consider yourself one of the family': Oliver! at ACS Cobham

The whole school community at ACS Cobham took to the stage recently to perform Oliver!, celebrating the new performing arts centre with its biggest production to date.

Featuring a cast and crew of over 80 members of the extended school community, ACS Cobhams first production of this kind saw singing, dancing and acting not only from our Lower School, Middle School and High School students, but included teachers, parents, administrators and alumni!

The famous Dickensian tale of the boy who asked for more was a sell-out over the three days of performances, with over 1000 tickets flying out the door to family and friends.

The large-scale production demonstrated key aspects of musical theatre, bringing together the community to enjoy the facilities of the new performing arts centre, with its professional lighting and sound systems and fly tower.

Oliver!, with its range of roles for children, teenagers and adults, shone a spotlight on the communitys keen performers, with younger students featuring as orphans in the workhouse, teachers as homeless cockneys and 18 High School musicians making up the live orchestra.

Head of Drama, Darryl Nel, who not only directed the play but also took on the role of Fagin, commented:

We wanted to celebrate the opening of our new venue with this large-scale production as its a way for all members of our extended community to experience and enjoy the wonderful new facilities.

Everyone involved in the production worked exceptionally hard; it was fantastic to see that hard work pay off and to watch the cast, crew and audience enjoy our new space!
