Budding Young Authors

Budding authors as young as seven have had their stories published in a book that can now be bought from an educational website.

The thirteen Year 3 children from St Margaret's Preparatory School, Calne, were asked to write a story which had a beginning, a middle and an end in no more than 100 words.
Head of English Laura Gordon said: 'I was very impressed with the results. It is not easy to write a complete story in so few words. They all did well and came up with some excellent end products.'

She sent the entries off to the Young Writers website and was delighted when all thirteen were accepted for a book.
Mrs Gordon said: 'Every story had to start with 'Once upon a time' but after that they all came up with original ideas that included aliens, animals and sport. The book has an ISBN number and can now be bought by parents.'

Pupils who attend the school's creative writing club are also to have poems published by the same company, which has been running for 20 years to encourage youngsters to write.

Young Writers said: 'Work is selected for publication based on perception, imagination, expression, creativity and use of language. The editors will reject work that doesn't meet expectations.'
