Creativity shines at ACS Egham

This week, 58 students celebrated the culmination of five years study of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) with a Personal Project Presentation Evening.

Students aged 15-16 at ACS Egham International School complete a Personal Project, an extended piece of independent research, at the end of the MYP, and at this weeks event they exhibited their work to family, friends, teachers and the wider school community. Each project is unique to the individual student and this year, students creativity really shone through. For example, Walter Ryan built his own electric guitar, Anastasia Kuzovenkova created a painting designed to transform perception of Russian culture and Michaela Buntings project focused on nature photography.

Michaela took over 1500 photos of nature across summer, autumn and winter, then made three wood-mounted digitally produced collages of a tree standing in a field. Each collage represents a different season with varying colours, lighting tone and feeling. She commented:

I have been a keen photographer for several years, so I really appreciate the opportunity the Personal Project gave me to integrate my passion with my school project and be really creative.

As part of their project, students were also required to keep a process journal throughout, recording the skills they learnt as their projects developed. They also wrote a reflective account of challenges they faced and their achievements.

Caroline Hazel, IB MYP Coordinator, commented:

Every year I am astounded by the individual effort every student puts into their Personal Project, and this year they really blew me away. The breadth of topics and the exceptional quality of the products produced has truly shown our students at their finest.
