Cobham students pull off a night for Namibia

In anticipation of an upcoming charity expedition to Namibia, students, staff and parents from ACS Cobham recently enjoyed an evening of charity fundraising at Burhill Golf Club.

The evening brought together over 100 teachers, families and members of the ACS International School community with live and silent auctions, raising over 30,000 for Kuthenhoas Primary School and Dr. Alpo Mbamba School as part of the Namibia Project.

The ACS Namibia Project has been supporting schools in Namibia since 1999, enabling students and the ACS community to participate in lasting partnerships with the schools and to make a difference through education, eradication and invigoration, whilst paving the way for ongoing aid.

In preparation for the evening, the Namibia Project team collected 20 live auction items and 50 silent auction items for attendees to bid on, including a Rory McIlroy autographed golf glove and a Chelsea football club signed jersey.

Angela Rowe, ACS Coordinator of the Namibia trip, commented:

The team worked fantastically together and the evening was a huge success. The guests enjoyed themselves and the students are thrilled to have raised so much for our project schools in Namibia. We are now looking forward to the trip!

The expedition, taking place next month, will see 18 students travel to Namibia to participate in community projects with the schools, including the renovation of school facilities and the building of additional school classrooms, dormitories and housing for teachers.
