England Olympian coaches at Canford School

Canford School in Wimborne was delighted to welcome Simon Mantell, England hockey international and member of the 2012 Olympic team on Wednesday 16th March.

Simon joined U11 Prep School players at the annual Canford inter schools boys� hockey tournament.

Twelve schools took part in the all day event on the schools� Astroturf pitches. There were both main and plate competitions and at the final whistle, Forres Sandle Manor School, Fordingbridge were declared winners of the main competition and Monkton Combe Prep the plate champions.
The standard of hockey was extremely high and the players were given some expert skills advice as Simon put the 1st XI Canford hockey side through its paces in a showcase training session after lunch.

The event concluded with tea and the presentation of awards by Simon, who also signed autographs for his many enthusiastic fans, both young and old!

�This was once again a very enjoyable and successful Prep Schools� boys� hockey tournament at Canford. The addition of the presence of an Olympic hockey player was a real inspiration to both players and coaches and I thank Simon Mantell very much for coming. Canford hockey has had another excellent season. This term alone, the Boys� U18 and U16 squads are County champions and both Girls' and Boys� U14 squads have taken the West of England titles. Last term the U16 girls were also County champions.
