ACS Hillingdon International School has recently become the first school in Europe to be awarded International Certification status from Council of International Schools (CIS). The rigorous certification process assessed how internationalism is embedded into school life and the school community at ACS Hillingdon, including across curricular and extra curricular activities, staff and student attitudes, and local and global community service. The International Certification recognises ACS Hillingdon’s provision of high quality international education and its commitment to developing global citizens, promoting intercultural learning and embracing diversity. Earlier this year, the Lower School Council at ACS Hillingdon was awarded the CIS International Student Award for the third consecutive time. The award recognises the nine to ten year-olds’ work promoting global citizenship, such as organising fundraising projects for international charities and crises, and contributed to the overall International Certification. Thrilled about the achievement, Linda LaPine, Head of School at ACS Hillingdon, commented: “We are extremely proud to be the first school to be accredited with the CIS International Certification. Internationalism is at the heart of ACS Hillingdon; our school ethos is all about celebrating diversity and multiculturalism and inspiring global citizenship through learning.” CIS also recognised ACS Hillingdon’s contribution and participation in the pilot of the International Certification programme. The school is one of a select group from around the world, deliberately chosen to highlight their leadership in the advancement of international and intercultural learning for students. Jane Larsson, CIS Executive Director, added: “Through the International Certification process, school communities explore aspects of leadership and institutional approaches that enable the development of students as culturally literate, competent global citizens. Together with the ACS Hillingdon school community and others, the outcomes of a school's work in this area are developed through a purposeful, collaborative network of diverse schools, recognised, supported and challenged to go further. With its strong reputation in the provision of international education, ACS Hillingdon has been a valuable contributor to this process.”
